Stop a Major Erosion of the Renewable Energy Standard
You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the
directions at the bottom.

Take action now to stop the Senate from Eroding the Renewable Energy Standard
The Senate is considering House Bill 2940, a bill that will cause damaging erosion to Oregon's Renewable Energy Standard (RES). Currently, the RES requires Oregon utilities to provide their customers with 25% new renewable energy by 2025.
HB 2940 allows for utilities in the state to be able to count several existing old biomass facilities toward meeting their new Renewable Energy Standard requirements. Additional proposed amendments to HB 2940 would allow existing municipal solid waste facilities and hydro facilities to be included in the RES.
HB 2940 would significantly cut back the amount of new renewable energy required by the RES. The result would effectively eviscerate the goal and the spirit of the standard originally passed in 2007.
Senate President Peter Courtney needs to hear directly from you about why HB 2940 is exactly the opposite direction Oregon should be heading. The Senate President is making decisions on this bill very quickly and he needs to hear from you right away. Please take action today.
Your message will be sent to each of the following targets:

I oppose House Bill 2940 Dear Senator Courtney,
I am writing to express my opposition to House Bill 2940 and urge you not to move this bill forward in the Senate.
Oregon's Renewable Energy Standard (RES) is an essential tool to build our green economy, diversify our energy resources, and address our climate challenge. The benefits that the RES will bring to Oregon are now in serious jeopardy.
HB 2940 allows for a very large number of old biomass facilities, municipal solid waste facilities, and hydro facilities to be included in the RES. As a result, HB 2940 would significantly cut back the amount of new renewable energy required by the RES.
That's irresponsible at a time we should be adding even further to the expansion of home-grown renewable energy.
I urge you not to move this bill forward in the Senate. Your name and address here
